Jonathan has spent the last four years writing a major new history of the Garden—from Eden to the present, through the ages and around the world. A unique book that explores not only actual gardens, from palace estates to city allotments, but the meaning of gardens, their centrality to culture and sustainability, and their representations in literature, art, mythology and religion. With over 150 beautiful illustrations, it will be published by William Collins in the UK on 22 October 2026 and in the USA by Knopf.
